It’s very unusual for me to do a long run on my own. I’m a very social runner and I’m blessed with really great running friends. Today though no one was available. So I stuck on my headphones, loaded up an audio book and set off to do 10 miles.

This was a beautiful run. For the first time in ages I felt that I found my rhythm. My breathing settled better than usual and my legs were happy to keep turning. The book I was listening to (Girl, Woman, Other) was engaging and for the first time in a long time I was able to just zone out and run.

This was the best ten miles I’ve run in a long time. Not quick, nothing special in terms of time or distance, but the quiet reassurance that my running is still there lurking in the back ground
