I’ve heard great things about the Royal Parks Half. I was really looking forward to this race. When we rocked up at the starting area we were greeted by a mudbath, by time we had bag dropped my shoes were full of muddy water and covered in mud. I was in a grump and didn’t manage to shake out of it.
The start was pretty good, the first 10km went really well, the route was pretty and the support was great, at just over half way though a spectator tried to cross in front of me and I clattered into them. My hip was really sore for the rest of the race.
The second half of the race turned into a gentle push, trying not to hurt too much, but staying inside Kipchoge’s record breaking pace. It’s sad, but my goal for this half was to beat Elihud’s 1:59:40. Which I just about managed.
My time is over 7 minutes outside my PB, but today I couldn’t have done better.
This was my penultimate race of the year and my last #TeamSpinal outing of 2019. It’s been a great year with a lot of laughs, some amazing highs and a couple of lows. This season I’ve set PB’s at 5k, half and marathon.
Today was made much better by witnessing Rav’s first half – she was amazing, sharing the trip with Pete and Em, enjoying the company of Danni and Jo, Will and George. Bumping into Gary after the race. And sharing a great afternoon in the company of Robin.
Just the Thames Meander Marathon in three weeks and then a huge taking of stock before starting the training cycle for Tokyo.
