“Pain is just weakness leaving the body” – that’s what was printed on our running number for this event. There was a storm blowing today so we weren’t chasing PBs, just going out to enjoy it. That said, it’s always nice to push a little bit, so Emma, Pete and I aimed to run the first 10km at 5:30/km pace and see how we were getting on at the half way mark. It became apparent at 5k we wanted to run different speeds and by 10k wee were all running our own races. Usually at the 10/11k mark I’d liked to have increased the pace a little, but by then the wind was blowing straight in my face so it was more a case of trying not to drop off too much.
1:56 for a half wasn’t too bad, but I’m not where I want to be in my Berlin Training, I need to drop a few pounds and pick up my pace a bit.
The race itself was very pretty, but left a bit to be desired. There were no distance markers, the post race. Snacks were a bit bleurgh. No goodie bag, no finishers shirt. The most annoying bit though was a quirk if the course, we ran 9.5km out, then 9.5km back which meant we had to run past the finish line another 1km or so, turn around and run back to the finish. Those 2km where you had run past the finish were so demoralising.
No long run tomorrow. Maybe Monday 🤷🏻♂️
